Dvorak on Microsoft

By Thomas Krehbiel

Hurray, a technology post!

In John Dvorak's article The Microsoft malaise, he writes: "The .Net framework that many believe is an example of how Microsoft can actually put together elegant and powerful architectures when it wants to, is being killed by Open Source systems that are free and almost just as powerful."

Huh? This is news to me. Besides the fact there is no source cited to substantiate this claim, there is not even a mention of the names of any of these alleged Microsoft-killing Open Source systems. Perhaps in Mr. Dvorak's lofty consulting position, such information is obvious, but for us poor dumb slobs down in the programming trenches, we'd like a little bit more information to support broad sweeping claims that might affect our future employability.
