Sen. Joseph Biden announced his official intention to run for president in 2008 and simultaneously ensured he will lose every Democratic primary all in one fell swoop: Biden Says He’s In…Again.
Personally I like Sen. Biden -- he's one of the few Senators who acts less like a political robot and more like a real, if somewhat long-winded, human being. It's very clear, however, that Progressive Democrats do not like Sen. Biden, because the Democratic blogosphere (in Virginia and elsewhere) is currently throwing him under the bus by amplifying his back-handed compliment of Barack Obama ("I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy") and distorting it into a racist put-down of George Allen-like proportions. I won't even get into what the Republican blogosphere is saying about Biden.
Speaking of Kos and the Democratic blogosphere, it will be interesting to see who Daily Kos bloggers will endorse in 2008, because it sure won't be Hillary Clinton. Kos was vocal in denouncing any of the so-called New Democrats in 2006, and Kos has personally singled out Hillary Clinton for criticism many times in the past (including in a Washington Post op-ed piece). One has to wonder what will happen if Hillary does indeed win the Democratic nomination. Will Kos backtrack for the good of the Democratic Party or will he stand by his Progressive principles? Will the Daily Kos empire fracture if Kos throws his support behind the evil Hillary in 2008? It might actually be worth reading Daily Kos again to find out.
