Unusual Abortion Followup

By Thomas Krehbiel

Here's a followup to an incident I commented on several months ago about a woman who shot herself in the stomach to induce an abortion. Apparently the felony case against her, which could have resulted in up to 10 years in prison, was dropped because of some legal technicalities.

There are a few more details about the case in the article than were previously known. The woman is a single mother with 2 other children, and apparently she got scared about having a third kid -- on the due date, when she started having contractions. Now I'm sure that's a really stressful life situation to be in, but, um, that's a little late to change your family plans. Besides, the recommended way of dealing with stress (while taking care of your other two children) is not buying a gun to shoot your unborn child through your own abdomen. The judge called it a "moral outrage," but I'd call it more like "moral ineptitude."
